There’s snow outside! AGAIN! AUGH! There is a purpose even in that, however, so let us rejoice. I’m going to rejoice by pretending I’m walking through a marshmallow wonderland. On to other things…
Last night we had our “Celebration Sunday” at my church, after the completion of the 40 Days of Purpose campaign. I had the somewhat trying task of being in charge of the bouncy-room (I don’t know what they’re properly called, but you know… those inflatable rooms that kids bounce in). It was fun, of course, because there’s nothing I like better than being with the kids. Thankfully, despite the fact that kids were maxed out on mega-sugar rushes, and bouncing around in big rubber rooms, and then outside playing with sticks coated in gunpowder, followed by a fireworks show – there were no injuries. Praise God!
I even had the distinct pleasure to serve as Al Bernard’s assistant for his amazing “thumb-tied” illusion. Al Bernard is a professional magician in my fellowship who not only does the classics, but also uses illusions to teach Christian values (www.albernard.com). It’s always a great show to watch, and this time I actually got to be in it! I was slightly disappointed that I wasn’t asked to put on one of those cool sparkly dresses, though.
Speaking of Christian magicians, I should also point out that I know more than one now! Nate Nygren of Astonishment.org even has some amazing tricks viewable online, as well as a few theological articles. Check both of these guys out!
